ASA Announces M1 Emergency License Server Software

M1 Emergency License Server™ enables M1 Waveform Tools™ users to instantly transfer licenses between production test system waveform-gathering platforms to eliminate downtime due to instrument failure.

Amherst Systems Associates Inc (ASA Corp.) today announced the release of M1 Emergency License Server (M1 ELS™), a new companion product to M1 Waveform Tools (M1WT™) that provides an ‘on the shelf’ emergency instant license transfer capability. M1 ELS will eliminate delays or downtime when an instrument (oscilloscope or digitizer) needs repair, calibration or replacement – keeping your test stand working, even if the replacement platform is from a different manufacturer.

 

M1 ELS uses a token system to enable the transfer of an existing M1WT license from one waveform platform to another, either temporarily for up to 45 days or permanently. Additional tokens can be added at any time, with a 60% discount applied when replacing a token that was used for a temporary transfer. Each token enables a single M1WT license to be transferred to any supported platform that is at an equal or lower M1 Software Level to the original platform.

 

A second token class for M1 ELS will be released shortly which allows not just transferring to a lateral or lower M1 Software Level, but to any arbitrary oscilloscope or digitizer system. These higher-urgency tokens will be priced at $5000 each and allow the use of any platform, even those in licensing classes for which the user had not initially paid.

ASA Announces Major Automation Enhancements to M1 Waveform Tools

The M1™ system of waveform-handling tools significantly expands the scope of their unique contribution to waveform-oriented workflow automation with v7.

In this next installment in the press release sequence introducing sweeping capability enhancements to their popular and award-winning M1 Waveform Tools™, Amherst Systems Associates Inc (ASA Corp.) today announced significant new functionality to assist users of both its flagship M1 Waveform Tools (M1WT™) and offline M1 Reader™ products in the creation and execution of automated procedures.  Automation of waveform workflow with M1 results in significant productivity gains and workflow-expense reductions that will assist organizations in developing standardized automated procedures that are easily shared among coworkers and partners around the world.

First, the new Express Test™ Automation tool enables users to create efficient compliance tests and other M1 test automations without having to know how to program.  The tool tremendously streamlines the interactive testing process by providing numerous convenient ways to define a specific path through full compliance tests, which tend to be larger and more complex.  This lets the test engineer focus specifically on the failing measurements without wasting time on those measurements that are passing.  These focused sub-tests can be named and saved for future debug sessions.

There are multiple ways to author Express Tests…they can be specified manually, be set to mimic an operator’s inputs, or be generated automatically when a test fails.  Note Express Test isn’t just a feature of a few compliance applications, but an integral architectural feature of the automation framework provided by M1 to create M1 Apps™.

The automatic means of generating an Express Test is particularly exciting in that it can work in conjunction with M1’s existing Compliance Breakout™ capability.  For example, if a user is running ASA’s DDR4 Compliance App and encounters a failure with the Data Strobe timing, a single click will generate an appropriate Express Test automating the specific test sequence of the failed measurement and re-creating the user’s path to the point of the failure.  A second click then activates Compliance Breakout itself, allowing the user to investigate the failed parameters using M1’s massive array of innovative debug and analysis tools using the actual waveform that held the failure.  Once the problem has been located and corrected, the Express Test provides an efficient way to retest the compliance failure without the need to make a long series of selections in the full compliance App.  This approach to transitioning into and back out of a debugging mode saves the engineer a great deal of time by not having to rerun parts of the full test that were not relevant to the failure.

ASAis also introducing a capability we call MacroScripts™ in M1 WT and M1 Reader.  By employing natural operator actions instead of programming a TestScript™ in M1’s graphical scripting environment, MacroScripts are a blazing fast option for authoring repetitive automation sequences where a full-blown M1 TestScript isn’t needed.  With these, M1 users can automate and repeat common parts of their workflow by simply recording the user’s actions during an M1 session using a simple set of controls.  Any M1 action, including acquisition, analysis and reporting, can be incorporated within these automations, and saved MacroScripts can be played back on any M1 system running M1WT v7.

Other major updates to M1’s Automation architecture have to do with additions to the command language which controls M1 from a test-executive.  New commands and modes around reporting, saving, and the addition of tools that permit more sophisticated control schemes among others.

Another major component of M1’s Automation functionality is the ability to work with other software tools that are commonly used in test stand development to automate the sequencing of instruments (versus the sequencing of analysis flow, the other level of automation in M1).  Using the M1 library with test-executive environments such as NI LabVIEW, Perl, Python or VEE greatly simplifies/reduces test-executive creation time.  M1 controls the automation of analysis sequences and abstracts the waveform-gathering platform, allowing the other tools to simply control the sequencing of other instrumentation without regard for the particular type or brand of acquisition hardware used.  In addition, the vast array of innovative measurement types and tools built into M1 saves the customer from the time and expense of attempting to recreate these on their own for each automation project.

ASA Announces Major Enhancements to M1 Waveform Tools™ and M1 Reader™ with Release of V7

M1 Waveform Tools v7 adds major enhancements in collaboration, new-user assistance, and more to M1™’s already industry-leading list of capabilities.

As part of a sequence of press releases introducing new capabilities, Amherst Systems Associates Inc (ASA Corp.) today announced the release of the latest version (v7) of their flagship product, M1 Waveform Tools.  This release contains significant new tools to aid M1™ users in collaborating with their coworkers, partners, vendors, and customers; an ability to categorize your saved waveforms; the M1 Assistant™ to help new users become immediately productive; a new analysis capability; and significant performance improvements.  As always, the offline M1 Reader also gains all of these new capabilities as well.

One update to M1’s collaboration enables users to attach detailed comments to a particular position on the waveform being analyzed.  Each comment records a timestamp and author so that collaboration with others can accurately record and track observations and responses between users.  When an issue is resolved, the comment can be marked as ‘closed’ to enable easy differentiation of what issues remain to be addressed.  The comment table also allows for immediate navigation to any comment in any measurement, and will even open the required measurement if it’s not already available.

To assist users in categorizing saved waveforms for later retrieval, M1 implements a sophisticated File Tag architecture to provide descriptive information about the saved waveform.  File Tags are automatically created for critical information such as the waveform source, signal information such as voltage min/max, and summary results of any measurements that are open. File Tags can be automatically saved across sequences of waveforms, ensuring this information is always available throughout the entire test set.  Tags can be viewed without having to load the waveform into M1 by simply hovering the cursor over the file in Windows Explorer, and can assist in finding a desired waveform without having to open multiple waveforms in M1 while searching.

As with any tool that has the depth and breadth of M1, there can be a learning curve for new users.  To the existing online training videos, Enhanced ToolTips, Self-Demos, and other assistive technologies already available, M1 v7 adds the M1 Assistant.  The M1 Assistant provides one-button access to a wide variety of common tools and capabilities, and even instructs the user on how to reach that feature from the normal M1 UI if they wish, so that they can eventually stop using the Assistant.  Users can even customize the M1 Assistant to prominently display the most recently used features or a specific set of features that they select.

Additional enhancements with this release include a color-graded Eye Diagram and performance speedups.  A color-graded eye enables users to get a visual feel for how often their waveform passes through different parts of the eye, and can assist in visualizing issues such as duty-cycle distortion and data-dependent jitter.  The introduction of multi-threading in key calculations, as well as significant performance improvements in some algorithms, allows waveforms to be processed up to an order of magnitude faster in some cases.
